Plus-size High-fashion Designer Finds Retailers Still Hesitant - Cbs News

I wanted my clothes to fit," Clarke said. When Clarke tried to sell her trendy plus-size designs to retailers, the response was always the same. "They would say, http://www.chicemma.com 'You know if it was in straight size, we would put it on the rack, but because it's in plus-size, no one's gonna buy it,'" Clarke said. Clarke took her business online. It was a convertible dress that launched her sales, but it's interaction with clients on social media like Facebook and Instagram that's helped sustain it.

Solange Had No Words for ?Fashion Police,? but Her Flip of the Hair Spoke Volumes - Yahoo News

The E! talk show isn't the only media outlet guilty of ridiculing the singer for her natural hair , she said.In Touch Weekly"compared it to a dog," she tweeted. In a column last year about pets that resemble celebrities, the gossip magazine reportedly ran a photo of a reader's Yorkshire terrierpoodle mix side by side with a photo of Knowles. "Basically twinsies" was the snarky caption. "What can I say?" tweeted Knowles. Turns out, GIFs speak louder than words. She shrugged off the natural hair haters with one dramatic shake of her voluminous, wavy tresses, captured in a GIF that's been retweeted nearly 20,000 times. Knowles' digital flip of the hair (subbing, perhaps, for her middle finger) came in response to Fashion Police remarks that Zendaya's hair on the Oscar red carpet Sunday night must have smelled like "patchouli oil" or "weed." Zendaya later posted to Instagram that she thought the comments were "not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive." Zendaya accepted Rancic's apology in a tweet Wednesday morning, writing: "Body shaming and other hurtful tactics will never get the job done." She ended with a quote from Martin Luther King Jr.: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.

On "E! News" Tuesday, Rancic said the reaction to her comments has increased her awareness of, in her words, "cliches and stereotypes." They are damaging, she said, adding that she and others have the responsibility to avoid perpetuating them. During Monday's "Fashion Police" on the E! channel, Rancic said that Zendaya's hair suggested the smell of patchouli oil or marijuana.

"It's like a materials house at Liberty with science and a side of magic. On acid." In that case, Bowker, who masterminds The Unseen's formulas and materials, could be considered the chief magician. Before launching The Unseen in February, she worked as a textiles consultant in a number of fields, from fashion to aviation. Inditex bans angora wool products - Feb. 10, 2015

One of the world's biggest fashion firms has banned the sale of angora wool after activists highlighted the cruel treatment of rabbits by farms in China. Inditex, which owns Zara, Massimo Dutti and Bershka, said it would stop selling angora garments in all of its 6,400 shops after facing months of pressure from animal rights campaigners. One campaign against angora wool showed videos of live rabbits screaming while fur is pulled from their skins on Chinese farms. The footage, obtained by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) at 10 farms in China, also showed rabbits being stretched on boards and cut as their fur is hacked off.

Haute Couture Fashion Week: Christian Dior - Yahoo News

A crowd of celebrities came out to view Raf Simons' latest collection, which has a distinctly retro feel. On a giant platform outside the Parisian museum today, models showcased the 1960s-inspired looks of the Christian Dior Spring-Summer 2015 haute couture collection. The designer chose to play with contrasting volumes, namely in long, loose and transparent trench coats worn over embroidered mini-dresses. Flared skirts also made a strong showing, echoing the French fashion house's signature design codes. Colorful stripe motifs are a recurring theme in the collection, along with other groovy geometric prints seen in jumpsuits, bodysuits and dresses.

Haute couture fashion week: Schiaparelli - Yahoo News

The waists are typically worn high, sometimes even just above the chest. The fashion house's signature design codes are well represented, as seen in the wide and prominent shoulders in a number of looks. The prints are abstract, with loads of flashy colors (green, red, orange), a few darker shades (midnight blue, brown, pastel blue, black, white) and shimmery accents. One of the most remarkable pieces was a blue pantsuit decorated with mirrors. But the real showstopper was Schiaparelli's eccentric wedding gown: a trench-style mini-dress in glittery gold fabric, complete with a long train in the same material.

Salma Hayek leads Saint Laurent menswear finale - Yahoo News

LANVIN HAS A NOSE FOR FASHION TRENDS At his Lanvin show, in the arty Left Bank's Ecole des Beaux Arts, Alber Elbaz crowned one of the newest catwalk trends: Prince of Wales check. It's been on high rotation this fall-winter season, and its inclusion here proves that the famed Israeli designer has a nose for fashion's vacillations. The 53-year-old veteran, who designs menswear alongside Lucas Ossendrijver, served up the gray pattern on oversize car coats and, elsewhere, on loose double-breasted jackets. He even experimented with it on a series of layered-suit looks with an outlandish silhouette: a coat on top of a coat. Blue, burgundy and maroon joined the checkered musing the must-have colors for any committed follower of fashion this fall. The pants were high-waisted, in the fashion of the late '70s, and coats and long jackets had large proportions spring dresses in lapels. PAUL SMITH'S DEJA VU The broad double-breasted suit silhouette, with its exaggerated shoulders and peaked lapels, was the terrain of silver screen icon Cary Grant in the 1950s.

Molenaar's design house says he died in an Amsterdam hospital on Friday following a fall at his home Dec. 22. Fellow designer Mart Visser told national broadcaster NPO Radio 1 on Monday that Molenaar was a pioneer in the Dutch fashion world known for his "architectural style" of clothes. As well as designing high fashion, including a wedding dress for the bride of Dutch King Willem Alexander's cousin Prince Bernhard, Molenaar also embraced commercial projects such as creating clothing for garbage men and street cleaners in The Hague in the late 1960s and recently designing a walking frame. Molenaar's funeral is scheduled for Thursday in Amsterdam. Arts & Entertainment

Fashion hits and misses on the Golden Globes red carpet | Breaking News | providencejournal.com | The Providence Journal

Other highs and lows: JESSICA CHASTAIN: The "A Most Violent Year" actress said it best of her ultra-shiny, plunging Atelier Versace: "My movie is about heating oil. It's like an oil slick so I was, like, it's perfect." AMAL CLOONEY: The awards season debut of George's bride was much anticipated. Her long, baggy white gloves with a black Dior Haute Couture one-shoulder gown and long Harry Winston earrings had lots of fingers tweeting. "To glove or not to hairstyle finder glove," laughed Stephenson. "It was a big moment. People had high expectations for what she was going to wear. I think the gloves were ill-fitting.

Highs and lows in fashion from the Golden Globes - Yahoo News

The fashion fails were, of course, the most interesting part of the red carpet. Naomi Watts didnt get the Nobody Looks Good in Yellow memo; the cut of her Gucci gown was lovely, but the color was unfortunate. Emboldened by their success adorning their mothers bridal veil, it appeared that Angelina Jolies kids wreaked creative havoc on Keira Knightleys Chanel gown, which was covered with butterflies and bugs. In fact, it took 30 people a week to assemble the couture creation. Melissa McCarthy wore a gown whose white long-sleeved top was collared and whose black skirt was ruffled. She told E! host Giuliana Rancic that it was stitched using pieces from her closet, a fact that surprised no one.

Kevin Garnett Blows In David West's Ear In 'aggressive' Fashion | Ball Don't Lie - Yahoo Sports

(Getty Images) For all the touching tributes and sober analysis of Kevin Garnett s future as an NBA player beyond the expiration of his contract this summer, it is necessary to remind ourselves that hes still the same sort of KG that weve grown to love, fear, and roll our eyes at since 1995. I mean, the dude blew in a guys ear on Saturday night. Watch: To recap: Garnett fouled Indiana Pacers forward David West , and then loudly stomped around Barclays Center complaining about Wests supposed flopping. Garnett followed this by blowing in Wests ear as the Pacers set up to in-bound the ball, West then brushed Garnett off and received a technical foul for his troubles. All this took place in the first quarter, mind you. Obviously, Garnetts move reminds of Lance Stephensons infamous trolling of LeBron James during last springs postseason , but West will have none of those comparisons.

Arian Foster's wife, Romina, combines football with fashion | abc13.com

While Foster takes some credit for his fashion sense, his wife Romina, is certainly the catalyst. "Its not all her, I got a little bit, I got a little swank to me," laughs Foster. "But for the most part she is the brains behind it." She is now putting her brains into a new clothing line. "Covu" combines her love of fashion with football. Covu is also a play on words for the defensive scheme in football called "Cover 2." Romina says "I asked him about football lingo, something that a fan will connect with the fans. So he said "Cover 2." Arian added "When she was going through names, that was kind of the one that popped up at me.

T.Y. Hilton injury update: Colts WR is active, fantasy visit website owners remain concerned with snap count - Yahoo Sports

The Colts are essentially in a meaningless game against the Tennessee Titans . The Colts are locked into the postseason, and Hilton isn't far removed from injury. While it's likely Hilton will want to test out his hamstring in Sunday's game, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Colts limit his workload as they rest him for the playoffs. Fantasy impact: With nothing on the line for the Colts and potentially everything on the line for fantasy owners, this is obviously a risky situation. If fantasy owners are determined to start Hilton, they'll want a quick score because he may not have much opportunity to do a lot.

Fashion Blogger Rumi Neely Launches Her Own Clothing Line - Yahoo News

The Los Angeles-based social media phenom is launching Are You Am I, a line of luxury basics, ranging from lingerie-inspired slips to barely-there shorts. "Blogging gave me access to the fashion world that I had only dreamed about having, and has done so much for training my eye," says Neely, who initially launched her blog alongside her eBay vintage store, Treasure Chest Vintage, in 2008. "The things I look out for when looking at clothes are so crazily specific now that it really was a very natural thing to start conceptualizing my own line." Neelys influences for the line run the gamut, from Japanese fashion magazines to "scruffy French actresses," she says, as well as her own native Southern California. "L.A. gets such a bad rap for basically not even caring about fashion but that's completely not my perspective. I love the laid back feeling, the emphasis on dressing down just makes it moreimportant to really have that perfect t-shirt or pajama-ish short.I've lived in a fewdifferent parts of California and they've really all had a part in influencing my normal." Inplay From Briefing.com - Yahoo Finance

A passion for fashion was formed. Throughout High School I always dreamt of creating a brand. Thats why I started my own lifestyle blog, troyalexanderproject.com and began following my passion--experiencing everything life has to offerand doing it in style. Since then I've written for The New York Times, Details Network, The Bite Magazine and have been a participant on several panels, including National Public Radio as a special guest for Fashion Is Not Style, to being interviewed by CNN and photographed by top British fashion photographer Dvora for British GQ. My love of luxury, mens fashion, grooming and travel has taken me to London, South Africa, Botswana, Costa Rica, Australia, Aspen, Turks and Caicos (and even an oyster farm in Virginia) to reporting and documenting safaris in Botswana, hotels, fashion shows, and restaurants that make you realize Grande soit la Vie! (Life is great!). Im a graduate of Berkeley College and now call New York City home.

The Fashion World Looks Back On Lauren Bacall - Quincy Herald-whig | Illinois & Missouri News, Sports

A model at 16, later a pal of Yves Saint Laurent and a frequent wearer of designs by Norman Norell, she wore the clothes - not the other way around. "She really epitomized this idea of effortlessness. It's like she never was trying too hard and I think that sometimes is the most difficult thing to achieve," said designer Peter Som. "That gaze, the voice, the hair. It was just that confidence. That was something that I think men and women alike could relate to," he said.

7 Reasons To Visit The Hague - Cnn.com

Only 23 survive (one is the Cyclorama in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania , depicting Pickett's Charge). The Panorama Mesdag, painted by Hendrik Willem Mesdag in just four months, is one of the finest examples, not least because it's displayed in its original structure. Although you're standing just 14 meters (45 feet) away from the 120-by-14-meter (393-by-45-foot) canvas, your eye is fooled into believing you're seeing the Dutch seaside resort of Scheveningen from a great distance. Because the painting is illuminated by natural light, the view literally changes with the time of day and the weather. In its quiet way, it's a marvel. Even Vincent van Gogh thought so; he attended the panorama's opening in 1881. panorama-mesdag.com Scheveningen The real seaside at Scheveningen is a quick tram ride or an easy bike ride from the city center.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. AEL: Final score 3-0, Spurs easily into Europa League - Yahoo Sports

The entire defense was great, but they didn't have much to do either. Kyle Naughton drew a penalty just 6 minutes into the game when he got cleaned out by AEL goalkeeper Karim Fegrouche, who injured himself on the play and had to leave the game. Unfortunately, Harry Kane wasn't able to convert from the penalty spot, but he'd go on to redeem himself. Just before halftime, Kane put Spurs up on the night by finishing off a nice quick move, with Mousa Dembele providing the assist. AEL's defense was in shambles by the time the ball got to Kane, and he placed a perfect first-time finish into the back of the net from the edge of the box. Paulinho scored just four minutes into the second half.

Mara Hoffman Brings Her Summertime-feel Fashion Brand To Sunny Socal - los Angeles Times

Leave something a bit rumpled; something else a bit un-tucked or un-buttoned. Dont over-think things. 2. Rocking one color fromhead-to-toe is seriously elegant. Consider the suit, which has many moving parts and options.

Luxury fashion designers Burberry and Tom Ford have conjured up completely different images of what makes a stylish man for their new season menswear designs. While Burberry models donned colorful hats and soft flowing scarves, and looked like bookish artists, Ford's men were cowboys through-and-through in fitted jeans, boots and biker jackets. The two labels were showing Tuesday for London's menswear fashion week, which features trendy young designers alongside the British capital's famed traditional tailoring houses. Burberry - Britain's most successful fashion label and leader in both men's and women's wear - drew a large crowd to its display, staged in a glass marquee in Hyde Park. The outfits came in arty prints and a rainbow of pretty colors, with everything from shades of turquoise and sea green to mustard, purple and pink. Designer Christopher Bailey said the collection was inspired by antique English book covers and writers: Models carried oversized notebooks under their arms. Bailey said he believed men enjoy fashion just as much as women.

The Fashion Tip You Should Take From Mindy Kaling

The actress is first to hop on any trend (she rocked leather shorts and rompers way before they were cool) and she isn't afraid to take a style risk, even if it lands her on the worst-dressed list . But the most important lesson http://www.chicemma.com this comedienne has taught us is one about owning our personal style. If you've ever looked through hundreds of photos of Kaling (like we just did), you'll notice that while the color and print of her outfits change on a daily basis, she almost religiously sticks to one silhouette: the just-above-the-knee shift dress. Not only does it look amazing on her, but the dress is versatile enough to be worn all year round, depending on whether she adds a pair of tights or opts for long sleeves. She'll pepper in different shoes, bags and makeup to each look, but the foundation remains unchanged. So in celebration of Mindy Kaling's 35th birthday today (June 24), we are taking a look at all the times she rocked it in a shift dress. While some of these dresses don't quite qualify as a traditional shift, the shape remains the same -- plus or minus a belt.

Lindsay Lohan Is A Fashion Snub, But Can She Really Afford To Be? Plus, Is This Another Reason Why Kate Moss Hates Her? | CocoPerez.com

Im a little overwhelmed. I havent done this I havent really done the shows in the last few years. But I live for fashion. So basically, Lindz lives for fashion but wont fly for a show?? That already sounds rather contradictory! Then of course, there are also the reports of LiLo streaking naked through a department store and getting into a public tiff with Kate Moss , AKA fashions dearest darling. Both these actions make it sound like she doesnt care for fashion at all. But who knows!
